Foggy Morning Maternity Session at Baker Beach, San Francisco (Film Photography)
I met Hilary and Patrick on a foggy fall morning at Baker Beach in San Francisco. When we first arrived, there was a soft bit of sun and a partially visible Golden Gate Bridge peeking through the haze. But within about 15 minutes, the entire beach shifted—fog rolled in completely, and we were wrapped in that classic moody San Francisco coastline light.
And honestly, it was perfect.
A Foggy, Cinematic Baker Beach Maternity Session
The changing weather created the most beautiful conditions for this Baker Beach maternity photoshoot on film. The light turned soft and diffused, the colors muted, and everything felt a little slower in the best way.
That’s one of the things I love most about film photography in San Francisco—you don’t control the environment, you respond to it. And sometimes, it gives you something better than what you planned.
We spent the session laughing between takes, running along the shoreline, letting the wind and fog shape the moment.
Nothing felt overly posed. Just natural movement and connection.
A Beach Story That Started Long Before This Session
Hilary and Patrick are beach people through and through.
They met in San Francisco nearly a decade ago, so it felt only fitting that their maternity photos in San Francisco took place at the beach where so many parts of their story began.
Now, as they prepare to welcome their first baby, they fully expect to raise a little beach baby too.
This session wasn’t just about documenting pregnancy—it was about returning to a place that already holds meaning in their relationship.
Why Baker Beach Is Perfect for Maternity Photos in San Francisco
As a San Francisco maternity photographer specializing in film photography, Baker Beach is one of my favorite locations for a reason.
It offers:
- Iconic views of the Golden Gate Bridge
- Soft, natural light (especially in fog)
- A sense of openness and movement
- A timeless, coastal feel that works beautifully on film
Even when the bridge disappears into fog—as it often does—it creates something even more emotional and atmospheric.
Film Photography + Natural Moments
This session is a perfect example of why I love shooting maternity photography on film.
Film allows space for imperfection, movement, emotion, atmosphere, playfulness!
Instead of forcing perfect light or rigid posing, we let the moment unfold naturally—and that’s what creates images that feel honest and timeless.
San Francisco Maternity Photography That Feels Like You
Whether I’m photographing maternity sessions at Baker Beach, couples in the fog, or families in their homes, my goal is always the same: to create modern, natural, film-based photography in San Francisco that feels like a real reflection of your story—not a performance of it.
