The Beginning

A picture is worth a thousand words - a saying I full heartedly believe, and live by. Photography is my chosen medium for expression, but in a world where everyone has thousands of iPhone photos and where the "camera eats first", I believe, more than ever, excellent photography is one of the most powerful storytelling tools.

For as long as I can remember, photography has been a part of my life. I am very much a visual learner, so photos have been incredibly important for learning, memory and documentation in my life. As a creative child, I remember playing with polaroids, scrapbooking, and eventually finding my way to the Yearbook team in elementary school and high school.

In my adulthood, I found my passion in film photography, loving how intentional photos could have such a profound impact. I absolutely love the story you can tell and how you can demonstrate a relationship or a moment with one well shot photo.

Ahead of my own wedding, I began collecting film cameras from various thrift stores along my travels, and a full blown obsession was born from this hobby. I began photographing my friends, and everyone in my life, becoming addicted to learning and growing my skills, experimenting with the different cameras, lighting, environments, colors, props, models, film types, and waiting to see the outcome.

After a while, I enrolled in some classes at the International Center of Photography in New York, and began applying more technical skills to my practice. Friends began requesting that I take photos of them with their loved ones for special occasions - pregnancies, engagements, weddings. I realized that beyond my love for this, there may be a path forward for me to create and work as an artist beyond being a hobbyist.

Eventually, I decided to take a real shot at photography, practicing and pushing myself past my comfort zone with every chance I could. And boy, did this pay off. It was scary, but so incredibly rewarding, and I have taken some photos that I am so incredibly proud of. There is nothing more rewarding, than spending a fun day with your friends or strangers who become friends, helping them to be their most beautiful, and authentic selves in front of the camera, and capturing their true essence.

I've been fortunate enough to be there for some truly incredible milestones, and have been trusted with some precious moments. I am so grateful to all of my friends and clients who choose me to document these special times for them.

Taking photos is about so much more than just taking a shot, it's about making someone feel comfortable, getting vulnerable, having fun, being yourself, and facilitating ease in these precisely timed sessions.
